Chiropractic and Exercise

Combining chiropractic care with home exercise is a great way to improve your health and increase your overall wellness. Whether you are suffering from a chronic condition or just hoping to maximize your body’s potential, Dr. Kent Carlomagno of Summit Chiropractic can help you develop an exercise plan for better health.

Exercise has many benefits, especially when combined with chiropractic treatment. Many studies have shown that it is an effective way to manage both acute and chronic lower back pain and other conditions, helping patients to keep working while improving their overall quality of life. In addition to helping with injuries, regular home exercise also keeps the muscles in proper tone, promotes circulation and can help your body function better as a whole.

Strengthening your muscles has direct and indirect benefits on your health, including increasing your ease of movement, improving posture and stabilizing your joints, as well as decreasing your risk of falls and injuries. Including exercise as one of his 12 rules for longevity, Dr. Carlomagno recommends at least 15 minutes of exercise a day.

Peripheral Neuropathy

Peripheral neuropathy is a condition that manifests itself as pain, tingling, burning and numbness in your feet, legs and hands. While most common in diabetics, diabetes is only one of multiple causes of the condition. Other causes include thyroid disease, vitamin B issues, Lyme disease, kidney disease, anemia, alcoholism and some statin drugs. If you are suffering from this condition, we can help at Summit Chiropractic in San Rafael, CA. Providing peripheral neuropathy diagnosis and treatment, our chiropractor Dr. Kent Carlomagno can prevent nerve damage before it progresses too far.

Through our neuropathy program, patients who are suspected to have peripheral neuropathy can receive a skin biopsy, which is important for diagnosing neuropathy in small nerve fibers and also for following the progression of the patient’s condition during treatment. Once peripheral neuropathy has been diagnosed, Dr. Carlomagno can continue with treatment, which often includes cold laser therapy and vibration therapy.  In addition to alleviating the symptoms of the condition, chiropractic treatments for peripheral neuropathy can also prevent further nerve damage. If it is left untreated, neuropathy can lead to more serious complications that can require amputation.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Carpal tunnel syndrome is one of the most expensive work-related injuries, costing an employee who has it over $30,000 in medical bills and work absences during their lifetime. Occurring most often in adults, women especially, that have jobs in the manufacturing, sewing, cleaning or meatpacking industries, carpal tunnel syndrome is a repetitive strain condition that causes pain and numbness in the fingers and thumb. While painful and debilitating, carpal tunnel syndrome doesn’t have to rule your life. Here at Summit Chiropractic, Dr. Kent Carlomagno alleviates patients’ pain and helps them heal.

Carpal tunnel syndrome is a problem that affects the median nerve, which runs from the forearm into the hand. When this nerve becomes compressed in the carpal tunnel, where the nerves, tendons, ligaments and blood vessels travel through the wrist, it can result in numbness, weakness and pain. Common symptoms include burning, tingling, numbness and itching in the palm, thumb, index and middle fingers. Some people describe their fingers as feeling useless and swollen even if they don’t appear to be. Symptoms can first appear while sleeping since many people sleep with flexed wrists. As symptoms worsen, they may appear during the day and result in weaker grip strength and decreased sensitivity to hot and cold.

To treat carpal tunnel syndrome, your chiropractor can provide an alternative to surgery. By using chiropractic care in addition to a chiropractic traction/distraction device, Dr. Carlomagno can reshape the carpal tunnel and remove the pressure from the median nerve, alleviating your pain.

If you’re suffering from wrist, forearm and hand pain related to carpal tunnel syndrome, schedule an appointment with our office in San Rafael, CA by calling (415) 721-7520. For more information, visit www.summitchiro.net

How Can Chiropractic Adjustments Help You?

The human body is a complex network of interacting systems that work together to accomplish many tasks, and the central nervous system is the master of them all. Because the nervous system facilitates communication between the brain and the rest of the body through passages in the spine, if vertebrae become misaligned, it can have a systemic effect on the entire body. Spinal misalignment, subluxations and other issues can interfere with the nervous system’s ability to properly relay information and inhibits your body’s ability to function at optimum levels.

The vertebrae in your spine can move out of alignment for a number of reasons, from daily activities and traumatic accidents. Using his hands to adjust your spine, Dr. Kent Carlomagno can move your vertebrae back into place and remove interference to your nervous system. Whether used to combat existing pains and illnesses or as preventative treatment, adjustments improve the overall health of your body and keep it functioning at its highest levels, from your muscles to your immune system. Chiropractic is known to help a variety of illnesses and pain, including allergies, insomnia, headaches and more.
